Support Group for Chef Wives and Significant Others – Days of our Emulsified Family

Days of Emulsified Family . . . sounds like the name of a soap opera . . . Do you ever feel like you are living in one?

Wikipedia defines a soap opera as, “A serial drama and suspense on television or radio which features related story lines about the lives of multiple characters. The stories typically focus on emotional relationships to the point of melodrama.” (more…)

10 Most Popular Posts of 2014

Every time I look at the calendar, I am amazed that we’re in a new year.  2014 just flew by for our family.

Somehow in the midst of the craziness I started blogging.  I had no idea how much I would enjoy writing and really wasn’t prepared for all the comments and emails I would get from so many people around the world that could relate to my life!

Today I thought I’d share my 5 most visited blog posts/pages from 2014 and also my 5 personal favorite posts.

Free Resources

Looking back on the 25 years I’ve been married to a chef, there are so many things I wish I knew about his career and the different positions he would have in the kitchen.

I’ve always tried my best to support him, but sometimes it’s hard to do that when you’ve never worked in a restaurant and this “restaurant life” seems so foreign to you.

Below are a few FREE RESOURCES for you, just in case you have ever felt that same way.

This ebook is all about the things I’ve learned while trying to support my chef/husband from home.  I’ve made so many mistakes over the years and have learned so much from them.  I hope that my mistakes and ideas will be helpful to you in some way!

Warning/disclaimer (or whatever you want to call it): This book is very one-sided.  While it’s written for a spouse or significant other of a chef, it’s not about how your chef’s career choice is making your life difficult.  I know being married to or dating a chef is hard!!  I’m living it.  If you are struggling with the ups and downs of a relationship with a chef, read my blog.  This book is all about your chef’s career and how you can support them along the way.

How to survive dating a chef

Here are some tips that will hopefully help you survive dating a chef. I know it’s not easy! Don’t give up!  Click on the picture to download the book.

9 Reasons I’m Thankful for my Chef/Husband

Emulsified FamilyAs we get ready to celebrate Thanksgiving this week here in the United States, I have been reflecting on all the things I have to be thankful for.  While I could write for hours about this, I thought I’d just share today why I’m thankful for my chef/husband of 19 years.

I am thankful for my chef/husband because . . .

  1. . . . he cooks well.  Just getting the obvious out of the way here.  But really, I am thankful for this.  If he didn’t cook well, who would cook my 5 course dinner every night.  Haha!
  2. . . . he loves the Lord and has a passion for the truth.  I am thankful that he stands up for what he believes, no matter what others think or say.
  3. . . . he provides for us financially.  There are many days he gets up, more exhausted than he went to bed.  Yet he gets up with a good attitude, and heads off to work to provide for us.
  4. . . . of his strong work ethic.  Every day he sets an example for the girls and I and all those around him at work by showing what it means to work hard and always try your best.
  5.  . . . he is wise (not to be confused with being smart – which he is as well.)  My chef/husband is able to look at a situation and have wisdom in it.  He is able to leave emotion out of it and truly give good advice and make good decisions based on his past experience and just good common sense.  I truly value what he has to say and have been amazed by his wisdom many times this past year as we talk and make decisions together.
  6. . . . he is a good listener.  He is always willing to let me talk, even when I ramble on and on about our day.
  7.  . . . he is level headed.  He is able to stay calm and rational when things get crazy.
  8. . . . he is artistic.  Not only has this helped him in his career as a chef, but our house looks nice because he’s able to decorate well.  (I am not artistic at all.)
  9. . . . he is a wonderful father. The love and compassion he shows our children is amazing.  I love watching them together.

Should I Date a Chef?

Should I date a chef?

I guess it depends on who you ask and who is asking.

This seems to be a question that is “googled” a lot, probably because with the hours a chef works, it’s tough to get to know each other and to find time to spend together when your are working opposite schedules.

Let’s look at two chef wives “tweeting” about it the other day . . .

Initial tweet (just sharing a blog post written by another chef’s girlfriend) – @EmulsifiedFam – So you want to date a chef . . . post from a chef/girlfriend. 🙂 #datingachef http://fb.me/2ysPEDIMx

@MyKitchenNY – don’t do it… Hahahaha jk

@EmulsifiedFam – but think of all the fun someone could be missing . . . (more…)
