A Day in the Life of a Chef Wife – August 2014

Every month on the 10th day, I grab my camera and capture my day with 10 pictures.

Today was not my typical day.  Why?  Because my husband was off!  Woohoo!!  We were able to spend the day together as a family and he’s actually in a few of the pictures this month!  AMAZING!!

Our morning started off a bit different.  We woke up and it was just my chef/husband and I in the house!  The girls spent the night at my aunt’s house so we could go out on a date last night.  (A Saturday night . . . that was strange . . . new job . . . hmmmm.)  So morning coffee in a quiet house.  How lovely!

A Day in the Life of a Chef’s Wife – July 2014

Every month on the 10th day, I grab my camera and capture my day with 10 pictures.

My life as a chef’s wife is not glamorous, as you can see.  And yet again, my chef/husband is no where to be found in the pictures as he left the house at 6:30 am and got home at 11:30 pm.  Just a nice short day of work for him.  🙁

There are many days I feel guilty about the things I get to do while my chef/husband is at work ALL DAY AND NIGHT!!  This was one of those days.  While it was not perfect and there were times of frustration with the girls, I was able to relax and enjoy time with our kids and with friends.  I’ve mentioned this many times to my chef/husband . . . that I feel bad that he works so hard and I get to have fun with the girls, and his response is always the same – that he wouldn’t want it any other way.  What an amazing man I married!  (But I still feel bad!)

So with that being said, here are 10 pictures that capture our day on July 10th.

I started off the day by checking on some new flowers my daughter had recently planted. (more…)

So here’s a glimpse of my day on June 10th in 10 pictures. . . a day in the life of a chef’s wife.  At a quick glance, you’ll notice my chef/husband is only in one picture.  This is a perfect example of life as a chef’s wife . . . he worked a VERY long day and I was home. (more…)

A Day in the Life of a Chef’s Wife – May 2014

10 on 10. . . A friend has challenged me to pick up my camera on the 10th day of every month and take 10 pictures, a picture every hour (approx.), to document the day.

So below is a quick glimpse into our day as a family of a chef.  I say that because you’ll notice my chef/husband is only in one of these pictures, and it’s the picture of him on my cell phone.  🙁  It’s the day before Mother’s Day.  He left around 6:30am this morning and still is not home as I write this (10:45pm).  Lovely!  Hopefully he’s on his way home soon!

Philippians 4:6

I struggle with worrying so I decided to have my friend Jen over at Rustic Pine Designs make Philippians 4:6 into a sign to put up in our living room.  As I sat in my favorite chair this morning, they were right in front of me.  What a great reminder that no matter what comes my way, I have no reason to be anxious but just need to take it to God in prayer.  Perfect way to start off the morning.

yogurt and granola

I am so in love with homemade honey yogurt right now.  Again, I blame this on my chef/husband and his extensive research on making yogurt last year for a cooking video.  I can’t seem to get enough of it.  This was breakfast this morning, homemade honey yogurt with granola and strawberries, in a mason jar of course. What Chefs Really Eat at the End of the Day

It’s common knowledge that chefs work long hours and are busy preparing food for others. There’s a ton of articles and TV shows telling us what chefs like to cook.

But are these meals that they “like” to prepare what they actually eat themselves?

At the end of a 12-16 hour day or a 70-80 hour work week, do they head into their kitchen at home and start making these meals they’ve told us about on TV and in magazines?

I wonder…

I am personally not a chef but am married to one. Obviously I can’t speak for all chefs in the world as I haven’t met them all. However, having been married to a chef for 18 years and having interacted with quite a few chefs and their wives/husbands and significant others, I think it’s time to be truthful about this topic and put an end to this myth about how chefs eat at home.
