Coming Soon – Chef Wife T-Shirts

I just love our little community of chef wives and girlfriends in our closed Facebook support group.  It’s so fun to be able to connect and talk back and forth with each other about the joys and trials about being married to or dating a chef.

A few months ago in the group, we were joking around about some silly chef wife t-shirts someone saw online.  The conversation kept going and long story short, one chef wife came up with a great little phrase (see below) that we all thought was true and realistic and I had some t-shirts printed for us!  Woohoo!  I’m so excited!

How Much Do You Know About Food as the Wife or Significant Other of a Chef?

How much to you know about food as the spouse or significant other of a chef?

After 19 years of being married to a chef, you would think I would be a culinary genius.

We have tons of cookbooks and recipes.  I’ve tasted more food than the average person. Our lives seem to revolve around food.  Vacations always have something to do with food and where we are going to eat.  We plan the meal or snacks for our date nights before we plan the rest of the night (if there is anything else we are going to do).

So why is it that I still know so little?

The Struggles of a Chef Wife – Loneliness

Loneliness.

I think this might be the biggest reason that spouses and significant others of chefs find my website.  Many of us are sitting at home on Saturday nights while most of our friends are out and about . . . yet our chefs are at work and we are home by ourselves (or with the kids) and are lonely.

It’s interesting.  Loneliness has looked different to me at different times in my life.

When we were first married and my husband and I were working opposite schedules, I would get home, eat dinner by myself, and spend the night alone.  I was lonely.  I missed him.  I wished he could be home so we could spend time together.  I hated having all that time without him.

I found ways to occupy my time while he was at work.  I watched TV, worked on my weekly Bible Study, did pages in my scrapbook, etc.  But I would still think of him many times during the night and miss him.  I was lonely.  It was silent in our home and I struggled with the long hours he was working.  I hated having all that time to myself.

Fast forward 19 years and the loneliness looks different.  (I wish I had more time by myself – LOL!) (more…)

The Stress of a Chef

This past week, my chef/husband has had the week off as he is moving to a different company.  This type of week off is very different than just taking a week off from the restaurant or restaurant group.

There are very few emails and texts.

No worrying about food cost.

No wondering if someone ordered the correct quantity of something for brunch on Sunday.

No one asking for help in a situation.

No blueprints to look at for future restaurant openings.

Nothing on the calendar in the near future.

It is truly a break. (more…)

The Struggles of a Chef Wife – Scheduling Appointments

How in the world do you schedule a Dr. appointment or an appointment to leave your car for 6 hours, when your husband is a chef and you have kids?

Not easily!

Now maybe it’s just me, but as a chef wife, I struggle with this.

Let’s be honest.  There are some Dr. appointments I REALLY don’t want to go to with 3 kids.  And these types of appointments can only be scheduled M-F and usually need to be scheduled weeks in advance. (more…)
