Saving Big Cooking Jobs for the Chef

saving big cooking jobs for the chef

Why is it that I always have these great big cooking ideas on days my chef/husband is working?

Oh, right, he works a lot.  How could I forget?  If I waited until he was off, I might never do it.

A few months ago I purchased 25 lbs. of rainbow carrots.  I decided to can them because there was no way we would ever be able to eat them all before they went bad.

As I started to cut them, I began to get frustrated with myself.

Why in the world was I doing this on a day my chef/husband was at work?

While I have some basic knife skills, I’m not very fast.

He also took my favorite knife to work and refuses to bring it home.  So I was stuck using my second favorite knife.

He on the other hand, could have done the same task I was doing in about 1/10th the time.  And I’m not exaggerating.

I also made the mistake of not talking about this canning project with him before he left for work that day.  I used the canning resources he suggested for a previous canning project (which turned out fine).  I even have multiple copies of his canning video here at home.  But if I would have talked to him before he left, he would have mentioned to keep the colors of the carrots separate, or they would all turn a funky purple color and look horrible.

So not only did it take me an eternity to chop and can 25 lbs. of rainbow carrots, they are no longer beautiful AND THEY TASTE HORRIBLE.  I now have 25 lbs. of ugly canned rainbow carrots in the trash!

CHEF WIFE FAIL!!!

Why did I plan this project on a day my chef/husband was working?  Why did I not talk to him about it first?

Please say I’m not the only one that does stupid things like this!

Please!

Someone else has to have a story to share below . . .

From one chef’s wife to another,

Jennifer

Oh, my knife skills are horrible. I always try to wait until my husband gets home and have him to the cutting for me. I’ve lost count of the number of times I was in a hurry and cut myself. I had actually never heard of rainbow carrots. They look gorgeous!

I won’t tell how many times I’ve cut myself. 🙂

Rainbow carrots are so beautiful, unless you can them or boil them on the stove. If you buy some next season, only roast them or eat them raw or they turn ugly! 🙁 Lesson learned!
