Chefwives, you know the conversation.  You’ve just met someone and you’re making small talk about your family, the number of kids you have, where you work, where you live etc.

You know the question is coming.

Wait for it.

Wait for it.

“What does your husband do for a living?”

“My husband is a chef,” you say timidly, knowing one of the statements or questions that will most likely be coming next.

  • You are so lucky!!  I would love to be married to a chef!
  • You must eat so well at home.
  • Holidays must be AMAZING at your house.
  • What’s your husband’s favorite food to make?
  • He should be on Top Chef!
  • How is it that you don’t weigh a ton?
  • What’s your favorite food that that he cooks for you?
  • What restaurant does he work at?  (Insert restaurant name here.)  Oh I love that place!

Then when people know you a little better, the comments tend to change. (more…)

A Day in the Life of a Chef Wife – August 2014

Every month on the 10th day, I grab my camera and capture my day with 10 pictures.

Today was not my typical day.  Why?  Because my husband was off!  Woohoo!!  We were able to spend the day together as a family and he’s actually in a few of the pictures this month!  AMAZING!!

Our morning started off a bit different.  We woke up and it was just my chef/husband and I in the house!  The girls spent the night at my aunt’s house so we could go out on a date last night.  (A Saturday night . . . that was strange . . . new job . . . hmmmm.)  So morning coffee in a quiet house.  How lovely!

You Know Your Dad’s a Chef When . . . Part 3

To all my children’s friends and their parents (current and future), please consider this a warning and an apology.

You know your Dad’s a chef when. . . you use dish towels to wipe up everything in the kitchen.

Emulsified Family

I jokingly wrote a while back that I can hardly remember using cute dish towels since I’m married to a chef.  I gave up on them a long time ago since my husband uses them for EVERYTHING in the kitchen.  We use white flour sack dish towels because they are cheap and we can bleach them.  We go through a few each day (unless my chef/husband is home cooking and then we go through most of them in the drawer.) A Day in the Life of a Chef’s Wife – July 2014

Every month on the 10th day, I grab my camera and capture my day with 10 pictures.

My life as a chef’s wife is not glamorous, as you can see.  And yet again, my chef/husband is no where to be found in the pictures as he left the house at 6:30 am and got home at 11:30 pm.  Just a nice short day of work for him.  🙁

There are many days I feel guilty about the things I get to do while my chef/husband is at work ALL DAY AND NIGHT!!  This was one of those days.  While it was not perfect and there were times of frustration with the girls, I was able to relax and enjoy time with our kids and with friends.  I’ve mentioned this many times to my chef/husband . . . that I feel bad that he works so hard and I get to have fun with the girls, and his response is always the same – that he wouldn’t want it any other way.  What an amazing man I married!  (But I still feel bad!)

So with that being said, here are 10 pictures that capture our day on July 10th.

I started off the day by checking on some new flowers my daughter had recently planted. (more…)
