It’s finally the last week of school for our two older girls. It’s been weeks of seeing friends from around the country post their end of the school year pictures on Facebook and it’s finally our turn.
While summer vacation is a great thing for most families, for the family of a chef it’s AMAZING!! Why? Because no matter what days my husband takes off (which change weekly, daily or hourly based on what’s going on in the restaurant) we are all home and can do things together. Or we can just hang out. (Although that’s something our younger two haven’t really figured out yet. They still think that if Daddy is home they need to be right on top of him every second of the day. We’ll have to work on that a bit.)
Every month on the 10th day, I grab my camera and capture my day with 10 pictures.
Today I’m linking up with a few photographers as we all share about our days. After you read about my day, I’d love for you to click over to their site (without comparing my photography skills to theirs please!!!!)
So here’s a glimpse of my day on June 10th in 10 pictures. . . a day in the life of a chef’s wife. At a quick glance, you’ll notice my chef/husband is only in one picture. This is a perfect example of life as a chef’s wife . . . he worked a VERY long day and I was home.(more…)
My new friend Kerilyn over at MarriedtoaChef.com recently asked me what my mission and dream was for this blog. I figured after 6 months of blogging (where has that time gone?), I should look back at my original mission statement and make sure I was still on track.
My mission or goal for Emulsified Family is really two fold. #1 – To connect with others who are married to or dating a chef, a line cook, a general manager, etc. and to encourage them with the Word of God and through what He has taught me and continues to teach me on a daily basis. (And since we have kids, many of the posts will be about raising a family with a chef, because that’s my life and what I do all day long.) And #2 – To give a glimpse of how restaurant and family life come together to those in the “outside world” (aka not in the restaurant industry.) (more…)
If you are married to or dating a chef, you need another recipe or cookbook like you need a hole in the head.
Seriously!
I say that jokingly, but it’s true!
The problem is not the NEED for a recipe, it’s the NEED TO FIND the recipe you want to make and the MATH SKILLS TO SCALE DOWN THE RECIPE so you don’t end up with 5 gallons of salad dressing. And then, HOW TO ORGANIZE these recipes that you’ve now converted into a home quantity!
With my husband being in his kitchen at work the majority of the time, the planning and cooking of meals at home falls to me. Meal planning is not something that comes naturally to me, but without it, we would eat horribly and would spend an absolute fortune on food! While I don’t always use recipes when I cook, I love to try new things and am constantly looking for new ideas. (more…)
So ladies from church and guests who joined us for the evening, this post is for you. 🙂 (And everyone else who is reading, feel free to keep reading.)
As promised, here are the recipes Tom used last night (scaled down to home quantities as best as possible.)
Feel free to email any questions you have or leave a comment on the recipe post and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible with an answer!
(And special thanks to my sweet friend Becky for taking some pictures for me (and for the AMAZING family pictures on this site!! I probably owe you another meal . . .) (more…)
