The post below is further proof of how differently my chef/husband and I think about food (or things related to food.)
Let me start of by mentioning my chef/husband’s view on food and the preparation of it . . Simple, Seasonal, Local. Why put 20 ingredients in something if it would taste better with 4? Why buy an onion chopper, if you have a good knife?
(This also answers the question as to why simpleseasonallocal is part of my website address. My chef/husband has a website/blog. It’s not updated as he has no time (big surprise), but maybe it will be one day. I decided to attach my blog to his, just in case something ever becomes of it.)
Random tangent . . . Sorry.
But Simple, Seasonal, Local. That applies to his cooking, his thinking, etc. I guess I should have thought of that before asking him what 5 things he thought we needed in the kitchen at home. His answers were not what I thought they would be, but now that I think about them, are perfect (and much more affordable than mine.) (more…)

So your blog is set up! Congratulations. Now it’s time to find someone to read it!
When your niche is small, you have to be creative in getting the word out to your readers.
So let’s think outside the box together, shall we?
First, if you happened upon this post and have never visited my site, welcome. I blog about being married to and raising a family with a chef. If you can’t relate to that, you are not my target audience. Lol! I know that you will probably only return to my site for this series. I’m OK with that. I don’t follow blogs I can’t relate to either.
HOWEVER, you ARE currently on my site because of another topic that you CAN relate to, blogging. So while you’re here and before you read any farther, I’m going to ask you a favor.
If you know someone married to or dating someone in the restaurant industry, (a chef, server, line cook, manager, bartender, etc.) will you share my blog via email with them? I appreciate your help in getting the word out about my blog. (See below for more information on how I created that cool link for you to share my blog.)
Moving on to the reason you really came here. 🙂 How do you promote your blog when your niche is small? (more…)

When I started blogging, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I had developed 11 WordPress websites before my blog, so off I went, ready to write and connect with other chef wives and girlfriends!
I got the website up and running and started writing. But you know the saying, “If you build it, they will come”? That doesn’t really apply to blogging.
Every blog post that’s ever been written about promoting your blog talks about connecting with other bloggers in your niche. You’re told to comment on their blogs, email them, follow them on social media and get to know them. Blogging is about building relationships!
But what if there are only a few other bloggers in your niche? (more…)

I’m coming back to this question again, “Do chefs get vacation time?” as I think about our quick last minute getaway as a family last week. Taking a vacation with your family when you are a chef is not easy. You have to plan your time off around holidays, menu changes, events, restaurant openings, etc. Then throw the traditional school calendar in to the mix and GOOD LUCK finding a time to get away.
In the past, we’ve taken the girls out of school for a day or two so we could get away as a family. But this past week, their mid-winter break lined up with a good day for my chef/husband to take off. So with that extra day and his normal 2 days off, we headed up to northern WA. The forecast for our days away was sunny (which rarely happens up here in February) and we were able to get a few last minute hotel reservations. It was an amazing time away and really good for our family to spend uninterrupted time together.
I won’t bore you with the details of the trip (but will of course share a few of my favorite pictures.) (more…)
