Today is Father’s Day here in the United States. Many children will be waking up early all excited to spend the day celebrating their Dads. Lots of cards and gifts have been made at school, ugly ties have been purchased and wrapped up and there will be lots of hugs and slobbery kisses.
But just like many other holidays, my chef/husband will be at work. I’m not quite sure how the girls will be today, especially because they will probably not get to see him at all. Hopefully there will not be any tears and we will not have to relive the conversation about Daddy not having a “normal” job.
Now before you feel too sorry for us, we celebrated early! Wednesday afternoon, we packed up and headed out to a local State Park and rode bikes and barbecued dinner. (Yes, he cooked his own meal, but I did prep it at home.) It was actually a wonderful evening as a family. The weather was perfect (which doesn’t happen often here in Washington), the kids were well behaved (for the most part) and we were together. I can’t ask for much more.
I am so grateful for my husband and the wonderful example he sets for our 3 daughters every day. He is such a hard worker and would do anything for us. He is wise and caring and my heart just melts when I see him lovingly console one of our daughters after they’ve gotten hurt (which seems to happen quite often in our home).
He works hard to provide for us so I can stay home with our girls and often misses out on things because of his job as a chef. I once told him that I felt guilty that he was working so hard and I was having all the fun, but he said he wouldn’t want it any other way. I respect my chef/husband very much and can’t imagine life without him.
