Who Knew? A Blender, a Box of Clothes and Cheese – A Few of My Favorite Things – June 2014

What a month . . . school’s out, the sun is shining, I had pimento cheese for the first time, got some great new clothes, went on a wonderful date with my chef/husband and I discovered this!

There are not many times where I can tell my chef/ husband about something new in the kitchen.  Actually, I don’t think there has ever been a time . . . until now.

I’ve already made it very clear that I’m obsessed with mason jars.  But who in the world knew you could attach a mason jar to the blade of a blender.  Well, apparently the people over at The Kitchn did as they are the ones I have to thank for changing my life!!

We drink a lot of smoothies and make a lot of salad dressings and salsas.  We don’t have a Vitamix. . . just an ordinary Oster blender recommend by Cook’s Illustrated a while back.  It works fine, but when you use a mason jar with it, it is AMAZING!!  The smoothies are so much thicker and frothier (is that a word?).  You don’t have to take the top off the blender and scrape down the sides.  It just works great!!  Plus, it’s one less dish to wash since we drink out of mason jars.  (Because washing the blender is so much work!)  I wish I would have known about this when I was trying to make baby food a few years ago!

This new kitchen “hack” even got the chef’s approval the other night when he was making salsa.  🙂  My life will never be the same!  (I know that’s a bit dramatic, but I’m really excited about this!!)

Pimento CHeese

Also this month, the girls and I headed out one evening to try a new menu my husband had just developed.  On the menu was Pimento Cheese with Bacon Marmalade Apparently Pimento Cheese is very common in some areas of the county.  Somehow I had never heard of it or tried it until now.  OH. MY. GOODNESS!!!!  How have I lived without this my entire life?  I think I could eat it for every meal!!

The last thing I went a bit crazy about this moth (it’s been a fun month) is a box of clothes I got from Stitch Fix.  This has nothing at all to do with food or being married to a chef, but everything to do with being 6’ 1” and having a terrible time finding clothes that fit correctly.  Earlier in the month, a box filled with 5 pieces of clothing picked out by a Stitch Fix stylist, showed up at my door and all of the clothes fit. I was in total shock!  I could write a lot about this, but will just send you over to this post to read more if you are interested.

So that’s about it for new and exciting things for this chef wife this month.  Anyone else try a new food or figure out something new that you are just dying to share with the rest of us?

Jennifer, I still haven’t tried the Mason jar on the blender thing, though it’s been on my to-do list for a few years now. My to-do list is really quite out of hand!

My to-do list is crazy long as well. And it continue to stay that way this summer as the kids are home, it’s hot, and we escape to the lake almost every day. So glad to have found your blog Jean. 🙂 Just started following you on Bloglovin.
