What concerns you the most about having a child with a chef?
I’d love to follow up on Tuesday night’s blog post about pregnancy and the chef’s wife. (more…)

I’m excited to start a new series here on Emulsified Family called A Chef, A Wife and a Child. During the series I’ll be sharing about our life with children, but have asked other chefs’ wives to share their stories as well.
I’ll be posting in this series every Tuesday evening through September. If you haven’t already signed up to receive my posts via email, you can do so here and then come back and read the rest of the post. I can wait. 🙂 Other blog posts on different topics will pop up here and there as well.
We all have different stories and different experiences about having a child with a chef. If you have children, or are thinking about it in the future, I hope you will be able to relate to one or more of us as we share our lives with you. I’ll also be talking a bit about miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and infertility as so many of us struggle with those issues as well.
To those chef families who do not have children yet, having a child is often an overwhelming thought because of the long and crazy hours a chef works. And for those of us living it every day, there are ups and downs as we try and figure out how to combine restaurant and family life. Then there are those with grown children who have lived to tell about it. (Feel free to leave your advice in the comments!!)
So to start off the series, I thought we should start at the beginning. . . .
Help! I’m pregnant and married to a chef! (more…)
Today my chef/husband and I celebrate 19 years of marriage (or 6,939 days). That is crazy! How is it that we are that old? In some ways if feels like yesterday and in other ways, feels like an eternity. I can’t imagine life without him. (more…)
Every month on the 10th day, I grab my camera and capture my day with 10 pictures.
My life as a chef’s wife is not glamorous, as you can see. And yet again, my chef/husband is no where to be found in the pictures as he left the house at 6:30 am and got home at 11:30 pm. Just a nice short day of work for him. 🙁
There are many days I feel guilty about the things I get to do while my chef/husband is at work ALL DAY AND NIGHT!! This was one of those days. While it was not perfect and there were times of frustration with the girls, I was able to relax and enjoy time with our kids and with friends. I’ve mentioned this many times to my chef/husband . . . that I feel bad that he works so hard and I get to have fun with the girls, and his response is always the same – that he wouldn’t want it any other way. What an amazing man I married! (But I still feel bad!)
So with that being said, here are 10 pictures that capture our day on July 10th.
I started off the day by checking on some new flowers my daughter had recently planted. (more…)
We’ve all heard the assumptions people make about our lives as chef wives or significant others . . . well last night many of them were true. While it doesn’t happen often, last night I had the privilege of being spoiled by my chef/husband and his staff at Palisade.
I love to eat at my husband’s restaurant (well he doesn’t own it, but runs the kitchen. So you know what I mean.) However, with 3 kids and a 1+ hour drive to get there (without traffic) it doesn’t happen as often as I’d like.
Last week the restaurant rolled their new summer menu. So tonight, I got a babysitter for the kids and headed up to Seattle with a friend for dinner. (more…)
