Connecting with Other Chef Wives and Significant Others

Today’s post is from one of my readers, Tiffany Ewigleben, who has some great advice about connecting with other chef wives and significant others.

connecting with other chef wives

I don’t have many close female friends, or female friends in general. The ones I do have are my friends because of an understanding and commonality in our lives- mainly to do with our husbands or significant others.

I’m a wife of an executive chef, a man who is just starting to make a name for himself in our Midwest town. I’m also a mom of 2 boys-one a newborn.  I don’t have to share with your readership the daily stresses and joys of being ‘married to the chef’. I’m sure they are quite familiar with that.

What I want to talk about is the wonderful luck I’ve had connecting with a strong, wonderful group of women who are also married to or dating someone in the industry, and how having a support system helps make the hard days a lot easier. (more…)

This is What Happens When a Trader Joe’s FINALLY Opens Near a Chef’s Family

I have a confession to make.

I think I might be obsessed with a grocery store.

I will admit that my chef/husband and I are a little strange in that we have gone on dates to a grocery store before.  (More on that another time.)  But this might be even worse that that.

Can I blame this possible obsession on being married to a chef?

I have a lot of other friends and neighbors who are very excited about this new store near us as well.  It’s what transpired after my 2nd trip there in 4 days that has me concerned and why I would consider blaming this on my husband’s profession.

Last week a Trader Joe’s FINALLY opened near our home.

If you asked my chef/husband what his favorite grocery store is, he would say Trader Joe’s.  He feels very strongly that I should do all our shopping there and he’s been saying that for years.

However, I refuse to drive 35-40 minutes one way to get to the nearest Trader Joe’s.

Now I don’t have to!!

WooHoo!!  (This is me jumping up and down with excitement!!) (more…)

Working Opposite Schedules as Your Chef/Husband

Working the Opposite ScheduleChefs work constantly!

Just stating the obvious here, right?

However, if we’re being totally honest here, they do actually come home and sleep and rest at some point.

The problem is, this time they are home to sleep and rest is usually when we are at work.

Boo!!

WORKING OPPOSITE SCHEDULES AS YOUR CHEF/HUSBAND OR CHEF/BOYFRIEND STINKS!!!

There is really nothing positive to say about it. (Except maybe that week night dates are great because places are less crowded!!!) (more…)

Dining Out as a Chef’s Family

Dining Out as a Chef's FamilyI’m not sure about other chef families but we rarely eat out.

I feel funny saying that as I know that the restaurant industry is what pays our bills.  But yes, our family rarely eats out in a restaurant.

So why is it that we rarely eat out?

Really there are several reasons.

I’ve been debating about answering that question or even writing this post as I’m afraid being married to a chef might have made me a bit of a food snob.

But with that being said, here’s the truth . . .

First – I’m married to a chef (obviously.)  Whatever we eat in a restaurant, he can make at home (and it’s usually better.)

I also think that when we take our family out to dinner, the food should taste good.

I can’t believe I just said that. (more…)

A Few of My Favorite Things – September 2014

Favorite Things{This post contains affiliate links.}

This has been a CRAZY month!!

School started, both my chef/husband and I celebrated our birthdays, it started raining again . . . it just flew by!

In the midst of all the craziness, I found a little time for myself.  So here are a few of my favorite things this month:

  • I’ve had the chance to blog a little bit more and have loved all the emails I have received from other chef wives and girlfriends, some asking my opinion on things and some just saying hello and chatting.  I love it!
