This is What Happens When a Trader Joe’s FINALLY Opens Near a Chef’s Family

I have a confession to make.

I think I might be obsessed with a grocery store.

I will admit that my chef/husband and I are a little strange in that we have gone on dates to a grocery store before.  (More on that another time.)  But this might be even worse that that.

Can I blame this possible obsession on being married to a chef?

I have a lot of other friends and neighbors who are very excited about this new store near us as well.  It’s what transpired after my 2nd trip there in 4 days that has me concerned and why I would consider blaming this on my husband’s profession.

Last week a Trader Joe’s FINALLY opened near our home.

If you asked my chef/husband what his favorite grocery store is, he would say Trader Joe’s.  He feels very strongly that I should do all our shopping there and he’s been saying that for years.

However, I refuse to drive 35-40 minutes one way to get to the nearest Trader Joe’s.

Now I don’t have to!!

WooHoo!!  (This is me jumping up and down with excitement!!) (more…)

Never Doubt a Chef in the Kitchen

Never doubt your chef/husband in the kitchen.

If you ask him a question about a recipe and he gives you an answer, he’s probably right.

You would think that after 18 ½ years of being married to a chef, I would have learned.

Apparently not . . .

The other day I had to make coffee cake for the staff at our daughters’ school.  I LOVE the New York Style coffee cake my husband makes at work and since I had to make a large quantity, I figured I would only have to scale down the recipe a little instead of a lot.  I’m all for practicing my math skills, but why go to the extra work if I don’t need to?  🙂

I wasn’t sure the best way to cook it, so I emailed my chef/husband and asked him what the size of a hotel pan was, since I don’t have a hotel pan here at home.  (I probably could have googled this and done a little math, but am so glad I didn’t.) (more…)

So here’s a glimpse of my day on June 10th in 10 pictures. . . a day in the life of a chef’s wife.  At a quick glance, you’ll notice my chef/husband is only in one picture.  This is a perfect example of life as a chef’s wife . . . he worked a VERY long day and I was home. (more…)

I Need Another Recipe Like I Need a Hole in the Head

{This post contains affiliate links.}

If you are married to or dating a chef, you need another recipe or cookbook like you need a hole in the head.

Seriously!

I say that jokingly, but it’s true!

The problem is not the NEED for a recipe, it’s the NEED TO FIND the recipe you want to make and the MATH SKILLS TO SCALE DOWN THE RECIPE so you don’t end up with 5 gallons of salad dressing.  And then, HOW TO ORGANIZE these recipes that you’ve now converted into a home quantity!

With my husband being in his kitchen at work the majority of the time, the planning and cooking of meals at home falls to me.  Meal planning is not something that comes naturally to me, but without it, we would eat horribly and would spend an absolute fortune on food!  While I don’t always use recipes when I cook, I love to try new things and am constantly looking for new ideas. A Few of My Favorite Things – April 2014 – Mason Jars

{This post contains affiliate links.}

Lemon-CheesecakeI’m not sure if this happens to anyone else, but things my chef/husband uses in the restaurant and menu items he’s developing end up in our kitchen.  Sometimes it’s a salad dressing I wonder how I’ve ever lived without.  Sometimes it’s cheesecake in a jar with lemon curd which I could eat 10 of in one sitting.

Lately, it’s been mason jars.

I’ve become obsessed with mason jars and I totally blame it on my chef/husband.

And while I love mason jars, I think I might even love the plastic screw on lids even more!

You might laugh and think I’m crazy, but can I tell you that I have spent entirely too much money this month trying to find the PERFECT pen to use when labeling a mason jar.  And still haven’t found one that works perfect with condensation. (more…)
