What a month . . . school’s out, the sun is shining, I had pimento cheese for the first time, got some great new clothes, went on a wonderful date with my chef/husband and I discovered this!
There are not many times where I can tell my chef/ husband about something new in the kitchen. Actually, I don’t think there has ever been a time . . . until now.
We drink a lot of smoothies and make a lot of salad dressings and salsas. We don’t have a Vitamix. . . just an ordinary Oster blender recommend by Cook’s Illustrated a while back. It works fine, but when you use a mason jar with it, it is AMAZING!! The smoothies are so much thicker and frothier (is that a word?). You don’t have to take the top off the blender and scrape down the sides. It just works great!! Plus, it’s one less dish to wash since we drink out of mason jars. (Because washing the blender is so much work!) I wish I would have known about this when I was trying to make baby food a few years ago! (more…)
24 years ago today my chef/husband asked me to be his girlfriend. And with the exception of a few short hours one night in college, we’ve been together ever since.
I’m not exactly sure how that is possible, since I’m only 29 (ok, not really), but wow! That’s a long time! I feel old.
I’ve known my husband since I was 4 and he was 5. Our families went to the same church and our parents were friends. While I don’t really have many memories that include my husband when I was young, my mother-in-law loves to remind me about how I sang and danced in front of their fire place one evening when I was little. I’m sure that never really happened and she’s probably making it up . . . (Can I tell you how many songs and dances I’ve had the privilege of watching since we’ve had kids? If my mom were still alive she would be laughing and probably calling it payback for all the “shows” she had the privilege of watching when I was little!) (more…)
I’ve been blogging for over a year now about our family and how we combine restaurant and family life. Every time something happens at home that I think would be a good blog post, I jot it down and/or take a picture. I have a pretty good list of ideas going. . .
But then I started thinking . . . I wonder if I’m writing about things that are truly interesting to other chefs’ families. I can see how many people visit the site. I can see what website or keyword brought you to my site. But I can’t actually see YOU or talk to you (unless you comment.) (more…)
I wasn’t sure the best way to cook it, so I emailed my chef/husband and asked him what the size of a hotel pan was, since I don’t have a hotel pan here at home. (I probably could have googled this and done a little math, but am so glad I didn’t.) (more…)
Today is Father’s Day here in the United States. Many children will be waking up early all excited to spend the day celebrating their Dads. Lots of cards and gifts have been made at school, ugly ties have been purchased and wrapped up and there will be lots of hugs and slobbery kisses.
