Every month on the 10th day, I grab my camera and capture my day with 10 pictures.
Today was one of those days.
You know, the type of day when your chef/husband is gone all day long and you really wish he was home to help with the kids (or one kid specifically). That was my day as a chef wife.
There should be 10 pictures. There are 7.
The reason?
We have a 5 year old.
Enough said.
My chef/husband never likes it when I take his picture as he’s walking out the door, so here’s his stuff, ready to go this morning. 🙂 Notice the new chef coat? Woohoo!!
I guess it depends on who you ask and who is asking.
This seems to be a question that is “googled” a lot, probably because with the hours a chef works, it’s tough to get to know each other and to find time to spend together when your are working opposite schedules.
Let’s look at two chef wives “tweeting” about it the other day . . .
Apparently in the United States we need 2 days each year to celebrate the doughnut. One must not be enough. Thank goodness some people are spelling it different for each of the days so we can keep them straight. Today is doughnut day but the one earlier in the year is donut day, just in case you were wondering. (Who knows if this is actually true . . . the internet resources on this are sketchy. Good thing it doesn’t really matter!!)
So today, in case no one has said it to you yet, “Happy National Doughnut Day.”
I’m sure your day is complete now that you know that!
Since our life revolves around food as the family of a chef, I have all the food “holidays” on my calendar. Tomorrow is Nacho Day and Friday is Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day, in case you were wondering. (Some are obviously more fun to celebrate than others.)(more…)
I’m curious what comes to your mind when you hear that word.
Do you think turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, time with family, etc?
Or do you think, another holiday by myself, can’t wait ’til January so I can see my chef/husband, etc.
All of those things above come to my mind as the wife of a chef.
Thanksgiving is actually one of our favorite holidays. God has blessed us with so much and we love talking about that with our girls.
We also love food! (Big surprise.) Brown butter mashed potatoes, maple roasted root vegetables, green bean casserole, cornbread stuffing, vanilla bean whipped potatoes, pumpkin cheesecake, rice imperative . . . and turkey (my least favorite part). Technically I’m making roasted heirloom turkey, according to my husband’s recipe, but even with the fancy title, I would be just fine if we left that out and just enjoyed all the sides and desserts.
I also like the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving as there is so much “food talk” with friends. We tend to get a lot of food questions from family and friends (thus the reason for this Preparing for Thanksgiving page from my chef/husband), but I love it! I love hearing about everyone’s favorite recipes. I LOVE hearing one of my friends tell everyone about how she broke down her turkey and how AMAZING it turned out last year. I love all the Thanksgiving crafts the girls bring home from school telling what they are thankful for. Maybe I should say I just love November. However, the Thursday that the majority of the United States celebrates Thanksgiving is not the highlight of my month.(more…)
