This is What Happens When a Trader Joe’s FINALLY Opens Near a Chef’s Family

I have a confession to make.

I think I might be obsessed with a grocery store.

I will admit that my chef/husband and I are a little strange in that we have gone on dates to a grocery store before.  (More on that another time.)  But this might be even worse that that.

Can I blame this possible obsession on being married to a chef?

I have a lot of other friends and neighbors who are very excited about this new store near us as well.  It’s what transpired after my 2nd trip there in 4 days that has me concerned and why I would consider blaming this on my husband’s profession.

Last week a Trader Joe’s FINALLY opened near our home.

If you asked my chef/husband what his favorite grocery store is, he would say Trader Joe’s.  He feels very strongly that I should do all our shopping there and he’s been saying that for years.

However, I refuse to drive 35-40 minutes one way to get to the nearest Trader Joe’s.

Now I don’t have to!!

WooHoo!!  (This is me jumping up and down with excitement!!) (more…)

Time Management and the Chef’s Wife

{This post contains affiliate links.}

Being married to a chef, (and being a stay at home mom), most of the work to be done at home falls on my shoulders.  My husband works 70-80 hours a week, so the free time he does have, he uses to sleep and spend with us.  I don’t want to have a huge list of things I need him to do around the house during the few hours he’s off.  This seems to work well for us.

There’s only one problem.

I tend to get overwhelmed easily.

Combine that with the amount of work it takes to care for a family, a home and a small business and that can be a problem!!

I’m a list maker.  OneNote is full of lists of things to do today and in the future.  I have shopping lists for different stores I need to go to.  I have a list of weekly chores for myself and the kids.  Some days I think I’m really organized and can stay on top of things.  Other days, I just look at what needs to be done and sit there overwhelmed. The Chef’s Wife and her Love for Chef Coats

I just love washing chef coats.  It is absolutely, without a doubt, my favorite part about having a chef for a husband.

(Obviously I’m kidding!)

I really don’t like it at all.  They are a pain to clean and stains stick to them like super glue!

Also, have you ever wondered why chef coats are white?  The other day I was actually thinking, “What brilliant person thought white would be a good idea for a chef coat??  Why in the world would you put a cloth buttons on a chef coat?”

So I did what everyone else does when they have a question.  I Googled it.

Turns out, there are actually a few good reasons.  Who knew?  (OK, maybe you did.  But I didn’t.) (more…)

Never Doubt a Chef in the Kitchen

Never doubt your chef/husband in the kitchen.

If you ask him a question about a recipe and he gives you an answer, he’s probably right.

You would think that after 18 ½ years of being married to a chef, I would have learned.

Apparently not . . .

The other day I had to make coffee cake for the staff at our daughters’ school.  I LOVE the New York Style coffee cake my husband makes at work and since I had to make a large quantity, I figured I would only have to scale down the recipe a little instead of a lot.  I’m all for practicing my math skills, but why go to the extra work if I don’t need to?  🙂

I wasn’t sure the best way to cook it, so I emailed my chef/husband and asked him what the size of a hotel pan was, since I don’t have a hotel pan here at home.  (I probably could have googled this and done a little math, but am so glad I didn’t.) (more…)
