Is the Restaurant Killing the Chef?

Before I begin, please remember that I love that my husband is a chef.  I truly believe this is the perfect job for him.

But with that being said, I often wonder if the restaurant is physically killing the chef.

(You should probably also know that my husband has been home very sick for the past 2 days as I write this.)

There are many nights I see my chef/husband walk in the door so exhausted, he falls asleep the second his head hits the pillow.

Other nights he comes home starving because he’s only tasted things all day and hasn’t really had a meal all day long. (more…)

When All They Say About Being Married to a Chef is True

We’ve all heard the assumptions people make about our lives as chef wives or significant others . . . well last night many of them were true.  While it doesn’t happen often, last night I had the privilege of being spoiled by my chef/husband and his staff at Palisade.

I love to eat at my husband’s restaurant (well he doesn’t own it, but runs the kitchen.  So you know what I mean.)  However, with 3 kids and a 1+ hour drive to get there (without traffic) it doesn’t happen as often as I’d like.

Last week the restaurant rolled their new summer menu.  So tonight, I got a babysitter for the kids and headed up to Seattle with a friend for dinner. (more…)

Never Doubt a Chef in the Kitchen

Never doubt your chef/husband in the kitchen.

If you ask him a question about a recipe and he gives you an answer, he’s probably right.

You would think that after 18 ½ years of being married to a chef, I would have learned.

Apparently not . . .

The other day I had to make coffee cake for the staff at our daughters’ school.  I LOVE the New York Style coffee cake my husband makes at work and since I had to make a large quantity, I figured I would only have to scale down the recipe a little instead of a lot.  I’m all for practicing my math skills, but why go to the extra work if I don’t need to?  🙂

I wasn’t sure the best way to cook it, so I emailed my chef/husband and asked him what the size of a hotel pan was, since I don’t have a hotel pan here at home.  (I probably could have googled this and done a little math, but am so glad I didn’t.) (more…)

Happy Father’s Day Chef!

chef and daughters

Today is Father’s Day here in the United States.  Many children will be waking up early all excited to spend the day celebrating their Dads.  Lots of cards and gifts have been made at school, ugly ties have been purchased and wrapped up and there will be lots of hugs and slobbery kisses.

But just like many other holidays, my chef/husband will be at work.  I’m not quite sure how the girls will be today, especially because they will probably not get to see him at all.  Hopefully there will not be any tears and we will not have to relive the conversation about Daddy not having a “normal” job.
