There are certain things my chef/husband does that I find strange. (Strange meaning it would never occur to me to do this, but now I do it too because of him.) I’ve written about some of them in the past.
For example:
-
Using dish towels to wipe up EVERYTHING in the kitchen. I thought that was so strange, but now do the same thing (and so do our girls.)
- Falling in love with a knife. (I am so happy to have my favorite knife back where it belongs . . . AT HOME!)
What about looking at magazines? When I look at a magazine, I read it and then recycle it.
When my chef/husband looks at magazines, he rips out pages that he likes and keeps them to refer to at a later time. It could be a recipe he could use as an idea, some sort of food presentation, seasonal decorations for brunch, etc. Whatever the case may be, if he likes something on the page, he tears it out and keeps it.
So we do not have stacks of magazines sitting around. Instead, on the bookshelf with all his cookbooks, there is a large stack of pages torn out of magazines. As he put more out there today, he joked that the stack was so tall he had to start another one. Oh my!
But guess what happened as I was looking at the latest edition of Martha Stewart Living yesterday? I tore out a page with a blondie recipe on it and put it in my file to things to try. AHHHH!! Now I’m doing it too!! (And our 5 year old was sitting next to him doing the same thing. I’m not sure where her pages went, but I’m sure I’ll find them stashed somewhere in the house.)
Is this something all chefs do, or just my husband who loves to read and gather information?
