Today my chef/husband and I celebrate 19 years of marriage (or 6,939 days). That is crazy! How is it that we are that old? In some ways if feels like yesterday and in other ways, feels like an eternity. I can’t imagine life without him. (more…)
We’ve all heard the assumptions people make about our lives as chef wives or significant others . . . well last night many of them were true. While it doesn’t happen often, last night I had the privilege of being spoiled by my chef/husband and his staff at Palisade.
I love to eat at my husband’s restaurant (well he doesn’t own it, but runs the kitchen. So you know what I mean.) However, with 3 kids and a 1+ hour drive to get there (without traffic) it doesn’t happen as often as I’d like.
Last week the restaurant rolled their new summer menu. So tonight, I got a babysitter for the kids and headed up to Seattle with a friend for dinner. (more…)

What’s it like to be married to a chef? Here are some answers to the questions you have asked or have always wanted to ask, but never had the courage to!
Does a chef cook at home?When he is home, yes he does. The key part of that phrase is “when he is home.” His cooking is better than mine, plus I think it’s easier for him to work in the kitchen than to figure out how to floss a 4 year old’s teeth. 🙂 I do cook occasionally, but he usually ends up stepping in and taking over (which I prefer.) I don’t expect him to cook, he just does it. (See this post about his recent time at home and cooking and also this one on cooking for family and friends.)
Too many! It varies from day to day and season to season. I would say a good average is 12-15 hours a day, with a commute. So a 60-70+ hour work week. Yep . . . too many. Things tend to change at the last minute as well, which can be difficult.
I’m back this week again with another guest post about what it’s like to be married to a chef. Today, I’d like you to meet Alix-Patrice Ogilvie. I met my Chef (Craig) on OKCupid about 2 years ago. We met online because we were both working in the industry, were coming out of rather long term relationships and we weren’t really looking for anything too serious so we wanted to stay out of the industry “dating pool” at our respective places. We have a 6 month old son named Jamie, but we call him Bean because the first thing Craig said when we saw him on the ultrasound was “It looks like a bean!” and it sort of stuck. We’re moving up in the kitchen today to the position of Executive Chef. Today, Chef Wife Claudia Strange shares what it’s like to be married to an Executive Chef (and have 2 young children). I know many of you can relate!
I met my Chef in 2007 (8 years). We had both been through divorce recently and were introduced by mutual friends. He had long hair, played the guitar and was a chef. I was hooked immediately. We dated on and off for a couple of years then got more serious after a while. We got married and had our son within two weeks of each other in 2011 and welcomed a daughter in 2013. I work full time as a communications professional in local government. My husband and I will celebrate 5 years of marriage in December (the 22nd to be exact ).
My husband is Executive Chef at his restaurant Strip in Atlantic Station, Atlanta, Georgia. It’s a steak/chop house, sushi and higher end bar. I guess it would be considered casual dining. The restaurant is fairly big, seats 750 plus a private dining room, second level dining overlooking the “station” and VIP rooftop bar. It’s owned by a restaurant group with various other concepts. There are 8 restaurants in the group right now.
